DOS Style Shaders for Unity (Space & General)
A downloadable asset pack
1990s/MS-DOS Style Shaders for Unity. I'm not the best at marketing, nor am I the best at explaining what I've done but I'll start by saying that the majority of these style shader packs are listed for sale on here & other asset stores for a 'fair price' - the principle is simple & lowkey a little tired of seeing these basic fundamental parts of video game art become another cashcow, so I've undercut you all - I'm not sure where the option was so I'll state in definitive bold text that this is CC0, if it could be any more free I would make it that. Restyle it and redistribute it, I don't care.
And lets be real, dithering is really not the be-all approach to 'DOS' rendering - I can't help but feel a fair few of these kits were designed by people who didn't play games from this era when they were still graphically relevant & the sheer inefficiency of most of them is laughable. Render Textures really aren't the way to do this, DOS games & older games graphically were not low resolution, hence why a few upscale very well on modern hardware. You should not be relying on post processing to produce these effects, they come from the bottom up.
So, rant over, I made my own.
This entirely rewrites how surfaces are shaded and results in true flatshading & colour banding, with light level limitations & added shadow darkness features for that high contrast look in the screenshot. This also includes the skybox shader, which has twinkling stars & customisable nebula features.
itch.io want me to fill in tax information to sell these, and as an American company I don't trust them to not get hit by some of these trade restrictions, this is out of their control but yeah this is free. If you want to donate to me, feel free & I'll link a PayPal. I can only accept donations in my life situation anyway.
